Bite Back At Mouth Cancer in Hull

Mouth Cancer Awareness Day Thursday 1st October

The team here at St Andrews Dental Care Hull take great pride in the dental work we undertake helping people smile with confidence. Tragically Mouth Cancer claims the lives of many and in so many cases earlier detection could have made a real difference. We work hard raising awareness of mouth cancer with our patients. Unfortunately it is predicted that around 60,000 people in the UK will be diagnosed with mouth cancer over the next decade which is why we campaign hard to raise awareness for the people of our region.

What is Mouth Cancer?

This is the general term given to the variety of malignant head and neck tumours that develop in the mouth. We promote awareness of all head and neck cancers including: throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx), salivary glands, nose, nasal sinuses and skin.

The Mouth Cancer Foundation

The Mouth Cancer Foundation is a fantastic organisation that pushes hard the importance of having your mouth checked regularly for signs of cancer. We always carry out a mouth check with our patients – it is just part of what we do day to day as it is that important to us. To mark the charity’s 10th anniversary they are launching a simple head and neck cancer check which can be carried out by anyone at home, and at any time – it takes less time than brushing your teeth so we suggest that you should carry out the check monthly yourself too.

Carrying out a thorough head and neck cancer examination at home can save lives.  Be familiar with the signs and symptoms to look out for and learn to act sooner.  Early detection is key in the fight against mouth cancers.

Bite Back at Mouth Cancer shows members of the public what to look for and how to seek help if they find something out of the ordinary.  This will allow head and neck cancers to be caught earlier.
